Oishei Children's Hospital Introduces Lactation Suite to Support Gameday Moms

The custom OCH-branded Mamava Lactation Suite at Sahlen Field

John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital introduced a custom lactation suite for moms at Sahlen Field, home of the Buffalo Bisons. The Oishei Children’s Hospital-branded suite will give moms the choice of a clean, quiet and private space to nurse and pump breastmilk at Sahlen Field.

Created by Mamava, a company dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more women to achieve their breastfeeding goals, the lactation suite is a self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump as well as a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is intended for individual use, but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with babies and other children in tow. The suite’s exterior also prominently features the same bright colors, Buffalo-themed imagery and kid-friendly murals found inside the 185-bed world-class hospital for women and children on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

“At Oishei Children’s’ Hospital, we’re champions for moms in our community and beyond,” said Cassie Church, Senior Director of Nursing Services at Oishei Children’s Hospital. “Our specialized team of doctors, nurses and lactation consultants understand the importance of giving all moms the choice to breastfeed and pump anywhere they choose. Traveling as a pumping mother or trying to find a quiet place to nurse are both real, everyday challenges and this lactation suite is an exciting solution. We are very proud to work with the team at Mamava and the Buffalo Bisons to deliver more choices for moms.”

The suite is located in the main concourse of Sahlen Field near guest relations on the third base side of the ballpark and will be available to patrons on game days during the baseball season.

“Our goal is to always provide a comfortable atmosphere and positive experience for all our guests each time they visit Sahlen Field. We’re excited to partner with Mamava and to expand our relationship with the great people at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital to support the families of WNY and Southern Ontario as well as the next generation of Bisons’ fans,” said Anthony Sprague, Assistant General Manager, Buffalo Bisons.

Moms can access the suite using Mamava’s Smart Access Bluetooth technology. Simply download the app (iOs and Android devices), press a button and unlock the suite. The app also helps moms find Mamava locations nationwide as well as the option to dim lights and reduce airflow for moms’ enhanced comfort and experience.

“We’re thrilled to support breastfeeding mamas at Buffalo Bisons’ Sahlen Field,” said Sascha Mayer, Co-founder and CEO of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a clean, comfortable and dignified place to use a breast pump or breastfeed distraction-free—anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”
