Language Assistance Services is designed to provide interpreting and translation services to Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, and also coordinates services for deaf and hearing impaired individuals.
Kaleida Health is required by law to provide these services, which ensures compliance with federal and state laws. Every attempt is made to provide services in any language. Every patient or patient representative who enters our facilities with a communication barrier should be advised of his or her right to Language Assistance Services, free of charge. Kaleida Health facilities use medical interpreting, including telephonic and certified interpreters as a primary method to remove communication barriers. There are times when a patient will have someone accompany them to interpret, however the guidelines strongly recommend against the use of children under the age of 16 as interpreters.
